1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling, the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ has self-emptying features. The i3+ is an excellent alternative for those who want a an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the robot's dustbin when it is full.
Both robots are proficient at picking up surface dirt on floors and carpets, and they can easily navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we evaluated the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities and therefore it could get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and it may have trouble in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to rug.
iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include putting away any clutter or toys it may encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filters free of dirt to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station and takes the dirt out of the docking station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use, and it takes about three hours to recharge.
2. Roomba by iRobot
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It is self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most significant feature is its self-emptying bin. This will eliminate the need for routine maintenance.
The Roomba I7+ is able to make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot by voice or through the app.
In our tests, the i7+ was quicker and more maneuverable than our top choice and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin that eliminates a major source of maintenance and lowers recurring costs.
We were also awestruck by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and to vacuum a particular area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. When connected, we were able to use the i7+'s voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car in a world of vacuums powered by cordless that resemble minivans and buses. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households, but it also fits nicely on the coffee table or shelves that you can spin around like a magic device.
The V10 is powered by a 7-cell high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases fresh air into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive bristles of nylon that are stiff and deep into carpet to suck up large dust and crumbs. It comes with three suction modes that can be adjusted to suit the task. It quickly switches from floor vac to handheld vacuum, and then back to floor.

This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments as well as an clip for a wand. This is a big improvement over older Dysons models, that require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The biggest issue with the V10 is its short run time. Its claims on the market that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading as CR's tests show. This is a typical, not an exceptional, time for the battery-powered cordless vacuum. This is still enough to get rid of the majority of a home that's average size, but not quite long enough to cover every spot (though an additional run-through often will suffice). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeably superior on carpets with low pile.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have lots of money to invest in the latest model of robot. It was able to pick up the majority of types of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area multiple times for an extensive clean. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice addition.
Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it's not equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models like our top selections and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently will run out of battery before returning to its base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in most respects, as it has fewer components that need regular cleaning, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and does a better job moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.
The elegant RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most purposes, as it has a longer battery life, can change the suction power mode by hand, comes with physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels better-built, has a more powerful motor, and is able to perform better on both bare floors and carpets with low pile, while offering a wider range of automation features.

However, it did not do particularly well at avoiding larger objects, like cords and socks which was a disappointment. It's also a bit more expensive than some of the other models we've tested, which might be a problem for some shoppers.
